The sampling inspection notice showed that in the "Kellogg's" cocoa ball instant grain (170 g/box, 2019/12/8), imported by Yihai Kerry Kellogg's food (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and produced by Kellogg's Thailand's Ruiyang factory, whose country of origin is Thailand, the detected value of aflatoxin B1 is 31.9μg/kg. National Food Safety Standard Maximum Levels of Mycotoxins in Foods (GB 2761-2017) stipulates that the maximum level of aflatoxin B1 in corn products is 20μg/kg.
The Shanghai Pudong New Area Market Supervision Agency imposed administrative penalties on Yihai Kerry Kellogg's food (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., confiscating 27,672 boxes of illegally operated products and illegal income of 445,000 Yuan, and fined 18.37 million Yuan.
Aflatoxin B1 is a strong carcinogenic mycotoxin. Long-term consumption of foods with excessive aflatoxin B1 may cause damage to the liver. The SAMR stated that the reason for the excessive aflatoxin B1 in Kellogg's cocoa ball instant grain may be that the raw materials used by the production company are contaminated by molds such as Aspergillus flavus, or that the sanitary conditions in the production and processing process are not strictly controlled, or related to the untight seal of product package and improper control of storage and transportation conditions.
Kellogg's issued a statement in response to the matter, saying that it will sincerely accept supervision and earnestly rectify, and has taken off the shelves, repurchased, and recalled related products. Kellogg's claims that all Kellogg's products currently on the market meet related national standards.
